Food of the Week: Dates

22 Mar

Dates

Dates are rich in vitamins B, C, K and minerals like potassium, calcium, copper, iron, iodine, magnesium and zinc and antioxidants. Also, they are loaded with fiber which helps regulate bowel function. They help lower bad cholesterol and counteract alcohol intoxication.

They are usually sold dried and are therefore very sweet so I use mine to sweeten almond milk or in desserts.

Did you Know? About Life Expectancy

20 Mar
japan
Did you know that japan has the longest life expectancy at 83 years?
This is due to people being socially and economically active beyond their 60s and also to a healthy lifestyle. Japanese obesity rates are only 3.5% while they are 30% in the U.S. Japanese eat seasonal produce, lots of vegetables, fish and vegetable protein like tofu.
Maybe we should start eating more like them and become more physically active so we can reduce our obesity rates and be healthier!
