Did you Know? About Life Expectancy

20 Mar
japan
Did you know that japan has the longest life expectancy at 83 years?
This is due to people being socially and economically active beyond their 60s and also to a healthy lifestyle. Japanese obesity rates are only 3.5% while they are 30% in the U.S. Japanese eat seasonal produce, lots of vegetables, fish and vegetable protein like tofu.
Maybe we should start eating more like them and become more physically active so we can reduce our obesity rates and be healthier!

Salmon

Did you know that the FDA approved genetically modified salmon for human consumption?

This fish is developed by AquaBounty an American company which in my opinion, has no respect for humans or the environment. Can you imagine the damage that can be produced if these fish get into the wild and contaminate all the other fish?

We have seen the damage that all the other GMO have caused; Obesity, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease. Please say no to GMO, please say no to GM fish, read the labels, ask the government to label these.

Remember, the best way to keep adequate levels of calories, sodium and fat, is by cooking or preparing meals from fresh whole ingredients.

Did you know? About Osteoporosis

14 Jun

A Plant Based Diet Reduces The Risk For Osteoporosis

Studies show that consuming a plant based diet reduces the risk for osteoporosis, on the contrary a diet high in animal products increases the risk for such.

Osteoporosis is characterized by a decrease in bone mass and bone structure deterioration. It is estimated that 10 million Americans have osteoporosis. Women over the age of 50 (or post menopausal) are at increased risk. Osteoporosis is a very important health concern, since it leads to bone fractures and disability.

Over the years we have heard that to increase bone density we have to consume more dairy (due to the high calcium levels dairy contains), but now we know that dairy creates and acidic condition in the blood. The body tries to compensate this acidity by adding a buffer which is calcium and this calcium is extracted from the bones. So bone density is decreased by this constant compensation.

A plant based diet reduces this acidity so calcium stays in the bones and the density remains within healthy levels. Studies on different populations reveal that those consuming the least dairy products have much lower incidence of osteoporosis than those countries where more dairy is consumed.
